HALLOWEEN 2019

Months ago, I turned to my husband and said “I know our Halloween costumes this year!… Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon!”, having just been blown away by the incredible FX series Fosse/Verdon. He was pretty jazzed about the idea too, so off we went looking for our top hats and dancing shoes.

But our daughter Jemma had a much different plan. Guess what happened? …

Jem started talking about being ‘Anna’ from “Frozen” in early summer and she never wavered. It wasn’t long after choosing her own costume, that she announced with great authority that I would be her ‘Elsa’, and her father would be her ‘Hans”.

She even cast our pup Lucy as ‘Sven the Reindeer’ and wrangled her other canine buddy Floyd to be her ‘Olaf’…

And with a little bit of effort (okay a LOT!) …we made it happen. I found her ‘Anna’ costume and boots at the Disney Store- they really make the sweetest costumes of great quality and colors for kids. I found her wig on Amazon here and couldn’t resist adding a few freckles with a brown eyeshadow palate and liner brush. My costume and the Hubs were both found on Amazon and I whipped my old Game of Thrones Khaleesi wig into a long platinum French braid.

So, I wasn’t the fabulous Gwen Verdon for Halloween and nobody got to see Michael and I shimmy to “Who’s Got the Pain” in our driveway (okay, that part is probably for the best!)

But for one special night, I got to be my daughter’s Queen.
