Pantry Challenged: FROZEN BANANA TREATS

We’re ALL a bit challenged right now in the kitchen. Bananas are a staple in my house and I’ve been freezing them to use in recipes like smoothies, pancakes, and bread. Here’s a yummy, healthy treat you can make with your kids… but don’t be surprised if the adults get a little carried away with this one too!

Check out our video from my kitchen below. I’d love to hear your comments if you try this and what ingredients you used!

FROZEN BANANA TREATS

Use about 1 banana per person

These amounts are rough guidelines. We used random ingredients based on what we had in our pantry.

You can store finished treats in the refrigerator or freezer, though ours didn’t last for that!

INGREDIENTS

Bananas (about 1 per person)

About 1 cup Chocolate Chips, melted (you can substitute with any kind of chocolate that will melt: like chocolate candy bars, chocolate baking bars, kisses, white chocolate chips, butterscotch chips)

Toppings of your choice: chopped peanuts (my fave!) or any chopped nuts, baking sprinkles, shredded coconut, crushed candies, graham cracker crumbs-let your imagine run as wild as your pantry limitations will take you! ;)

DIRECTIONS

1)Peel and cut bananas into 1-inch slices.

2)Place a toothpick in each banana slice (you can skip this if you don’t have toothpicks) and place on a platter or dinner plate. Make sure sides are not touching and place in the freezer for about an hour.

3)Melt chocolate using either of these steps:

A)Place chopped chocolate in the top of a double boiler or a heatproof bowl set over (not in) a saucepan of simmering water; cook, stirring occasionally, until melted- about 2 to 3 minutes.

B)Place chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl; microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until melted. Watch like a hawk! Microwaves can quickly burn chocolate.

4)Remove frozen banana slices from freezer and quickly dip in melted chocolate followed by dipping into the topping of your choice.

NOTE: Always supervise small children around hot melted chocolate- it could burn them if too hot.
